Alicia Marrah-Pierson, FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner)

Alicia

Alicia was the first primary care provider Dr. Yu invited to join SFM in 2009. She's been with SFM for 3 years. She was trained and loves to see the entire family.  She especially loves to see children and teens.   Patients describe Alicia as patient, caring, thorough, and calm.

Alicia received her Bachelor’s in Nursing from Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland, OR. After working as a registered nurse for several years, she received her Master’s in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner degrees from Washington State University in Vancouver, WA. Alicia is a primary healthcare provider (PCP) in family practice and is nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Alicia has years of experience in pediatrics, having worked in pediatric office, emergency and ICU settings. She also has years of experience in gastric and bariatric surgery, having worked in general surgery at OHSU. Alicia settled into family practice because she loves caring for every member of the family from newborns to the elderly.

As a family practice provider, she provides wellness care such as newborn exams and adult physicals. She provides women’s health care including pap smears, STD testing and contraception. She also provides chronic illness care including hypertension and diabetes.

Alicia likes to incorporate alternative health into the treatment plans of her patients including acupuncture, massage, chiropractics, naturopathic care, and biofeedback. When appropriate, she likes to involve specialists in helping to manage or resolve one’s healthcare issues.

Alicia believes in the partnership of healthcare. It takes the education, training, experience, and guidance of a healthcare provider together with the beliefs, feelings, attitudes, and desires of a patient to achieve healthcare goals. Working together is important to Alicia, therefore she loves to educate her patients so that they can make informed decisions regarding their healthcare. She strongly believes there is better compliance and positive outcomes when there is better understanding.

Outside of work, Alicia enjoys spending time with her husband, newborn, and two dogs. They love to travel and spend time outdoors doing various recreational activities. (However, those recreational activities have recently taken a backseat with the new addition of a little baby girl to their family.)

Nurse practitioners practice independently under their own license and prescribe medications and other treatment similar to that of a physician. For more information about Nurse Practitioners please visit: http://www.aanp.org and click on “About NPs.”
