Dr. Robert (Bob) Ruiz, ND

Bob Ruiz

Dr. Ruiz is a naturopathic physician who has been practicing for over 8 years. In addition to being a naturopathic physician, Dr. Ruiz has had extensive expertise in Aesthetic Medicine and will continue those services here at SFM.  Besides a full array of areas of focus listed below, Dr. Ruiz also heads our male hormone therapy program at SFM.

He defines integrative medicine for his patients as finding the best treatment from all modalities, including holistic and medical options. He remarks that “ I’m am a doctor of naturopathic medicine. I’m not pretending to be a medical doctor.  However, I’ve learned a lot about how my medical colleagues practice and have incorporated a lot of what they do into my practice. I love being able to run any question or case by my medical colleagues in the clinic and they do the same thing with me. It’s a level of collaboration I have not experienced in my career.  It really is combining the best of both worlds in the interest of the patient.”

Here’s a recent patient testimonial:

"Dr. Ruiz took extra time with me when needed, and did not give up until he found a solution. He worked collaboratively with my other specialist providers outside SFM.  Dr Ruiz has diagnosed illnesses that other providers including, M.D.s, have missed.  I'm very impressed with his knowledge and ability and I respect the time he takes to research things.  I truly believe if I had known and sought out Dr. Ruiz several years ago when my health issues began, he would have identified the correct root causes, then and properly treated me.  This would have saved thousands of dollars in health care costs...and significantly improved my quality of life. Thanks so much for all you do.  I will continue to hand out his business cards to friends...and continue to speak about the results I have achieved!"

Besides routine naturopathic care, areas of focus for Dr. Ruiz include:

     Male hormone therapy & Andropause

     Female hormone therapy

Endocrine issues: low thyroid and adrenal disorders

     Hashimotos Thyroiditis

Low Dose Naltrexone & it’s use in Fibromyalgia, Ulcerative colitis & Crohns

     Advance Cardiovascular Disease

     Irritable Bowel Syndrome

     Food Intolerance Testing

     Brain Neurotransmitter Testing

Dr. Ruiz enjoyed a private practice in sunny Arizona which specialized in anti-aging and aesthetic medicine.  He is passionate about the subject and believes that for most patients who see naturopathic physicians practicing aesthetics “skin deep beauty is only the beginning.”   Dr. Ruiz is a founding board member of the Naturopathic Board of Aesthetic Medicine (NPBAM) which is an independent Credentialing Board in the U.S. representing Naturopathic Physicians.  The Board was established to promote post-graduate standards and professional responsibility in the very specialized area of Aesthetic Medicine.

Dr. Ruiz is originally from Colorado. He graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in Biochemistry and English.  Following that, he relocated to Arizona where he attended naturopathic medical school at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences.  It is here he found his passion—helping people reach their potential in both health and graceful aging.  Dr. Ruiz’s is passionate about the benefits of naturopathic medicine and the amazing outcomes that happen when healthcare providers work together.

His philosophy supports the use of anti-aging factors such as nutrition, food sensitivity testing, hormonal management including the use of bio-identical hormones for males and females, detoxification as well as external aesthetic interventions that support the correction and prevention of the aging process.   He believes it is never too late to begin the journey of prevention and correction via natural, safe and effective means.

In Aesthetic Medicine, he is an expert in the use of Botox and Dysport to improve moderate to severe lines of the forehead, vertical lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and lines around the mouth; the use of cosmetic fillers such as Restylane and Perlane to correct deep wrinkles, provide natural lip augmentation or correct peri-oral lines commonly referred to as “smoker’s lines”; and the use of chemical peels to help correct acne, sun damage, and age spots.  Dr. Ruiz has given lectures and has appeared on television interviews showcasing the latest aesthetic techniques utilizing cosmetic fillers and non-invasive body contouring.

Dr. Robert Ruiz relocated to Portland several years ago. He enjoys having his seasons back (Phoenix, AZ didn’t really have them), cooking and being outdoors in the mountains.   He enjoys many different types of music and cooking.  He’s recently taken up honing his skills on gluten free cooking.

Naturopathic Physicians (N.D.) are primary care practitioners trained as specialist in natural medicine.  They are educated in conventional medical sciences, but are not orthodox medical doctors (allopathic physicians, or M.D.). A Naturopathic Physician has a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine degree from a four-year graduate level naturopathic medical college with admission requirements comparable to those of conventional medical schools
